Historical:-
This type of arm protection was a substitute for plate armor because not every craftsman could make high-quality plate protection. It was easier to craft splinted-Brigg arm protection by adjusting metal strips to the vambraces. This model was also equipped with elbow pads. Splinted-Brigg arms were common even before the XIV century but during the Dark Ages (demographic and economic crisis) they were forgotten for centuries. However, they were actively used in the Byzantine Empire and the East.
